ATTESTED: September 13, 2011 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: June McHuen, Deputy cc: Cassandra Youngblood, Katharine Mason, Ressie Dayco C. 60 To:Board of Supervisors From:Joe Valentine, Employment & Human Services Director Date:September 13, 2011 Contra Costa County Subject:2011/12 Calif. Dept. of Educ. General Childcare & Development revenue contract, amendment #1 BACKGROUND: California Department of Education notified the Department on June 29, 2011 of the 2011/12 funding allocation for general childcare and development programs. Approval of this agreement will allow continued provision of vital childcare services to Contra Costa County children and families. The county receives funds from the California Department of Education to provide state preschool general childcare services to program eligible County residents. The program is operated by the Community Services Bureau of the Employment & Human Services Department. The State routinely amends these agreements to add funds and/or to update funding terms and conditions. This amendment accepts additional funding from the State and amends the funding terms and conditions to include an expanded definition of childcare and to increase the child's eligibility age for children with special needs (from age 11 years to 13 years). CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If not approved, County will not receive funding to operate this childcare program. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The Community Services Bureau of the Employment & Human Services Department’s Child Development program supports three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and, Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education, nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
