HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08162011 - C.45RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of Health Services Department, to execute a blanket Purchase Order with Roche Diagnostic Corporation in the amount of $500,000.00, for purchase of reagents required for testing viruses and bateria in the Public Health Laboratory, for the period from July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of $500,000.00 is budgeted in Public Health in FY11/12. BACKGROUND: Roche Diagnostic Corporation has been used by the Health Services Department for over seven (7) years. Roche provides the reagents required for use with the testing instrument in our PH Laboratory. The reagents are necessary for specimens to be tested for viruses & bacteria such as Hepatitis B & C and HIV. Additionally, we are required to use these specific reagents to keep us in compliance with our Instrument Maintenance Agreement. The tests would than need to be conducted by outside laboratories at a greater cost to the County. The Department also uses the reagents purchased from Roche Diagnostic Corporation to conduct similar testing for the Alameda County AIDS Program which generates revenue for Contra Costa County, without the reagents we would not be able to conduct the tests.
