S. Department of Labor, Title V Grant Funding BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) goal of the program resulting in increased opportunities for self sufficiency for the targeted senior population. With the changing demographics of the baby boomer generation retirement, it is anticipated that programs including education and technical expertise will be essential to meeting the increased need of older workers as they find themselves unprepared for retirement that may last 20+ years beyond the customary retirement age. Statistics indicate that employment keeps individuals connected to their community and is a major contributing factor in ensuring better overall health and self esteem. The Workforce Development Board of Contra Costa continues to seek opportunities to expand services to this population. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Without funding, services supporting older workers in obtaining and maintaining employment would be severely impacted. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
