HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11191985 - X.17 TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS FROM: Supervisor Tom Torlakson Contra Costa DATE: November 19 , 1985 County SUBJECT: PROHIBITION OF SMOKING IN OUR POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS SPECIFIC REQUEST(S) OR RECOMMENDATION(S) & BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION BACKGROUND INFORMATION: In the past I have brought up questions regarding how far we could go in prohibiting smoking with new employees in our police and fire departments. The police contract in Holden, Massachusetts apparently goes to the full extent in this regard ( see news article below) . Can we go further in our own county? What has been proposed at the bargaining table so far? What further steps can be taken? RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to the County Administrator, County Counsel and Sheriff the contract in Holden, Massachusetts, to review and report back on its applicability for Contra Costa County.
