In the Matter of Honoring )
Paul Hughey ) RESOLUTION NO. 85/632
WHEREAS on September 25, 1985 Mr. Paul Hughey retired after
fifteen years of service with the Contra Costa County Development
Association, the last ten as Executive Director; and
WHEREAS Paul Hughey has had a distinguished career in the
governmental and private sector, including service in the following
positions as well as that with the Development Association: Four years
as Executive Vice President of the Contra Costa County Taxpayers
Association; Three years as City Manager of the City of Martinez, and
Three years as Vice President of the California Contractors Council;
and
WHEREAS Mr. Hughey is a native Californian, served for six
years in the U.S. Navy and subsequently obtained a Bachelor's and a
Master's Degree in Political Science from the University of California
at Berkeley; and
WHEREAS Mr. Hughey has taught Political Science and Public
Administration at St. Mary's College and John F. Kennedy University and
is a Board Member of the Physical Science Scholarship Program for the
Community Colleges; and
WHEREAS Paul Hughey has been active in many community and
service organizations and presently serves as a National Vice President
of the Navy League of the United States, Board Member of the Coalition
of Labor and Business for Alameda and Contra Costa Counties, and as
Vice Chairman of the California Marine Affairs and Navigation Conference;
and
WHEREAS Contra Costa County has developed from essentially a
rural/suburban community to that of a prosperous urban county during
Mr. Hughey's period of service with the Contra Costa County Development
Association; and
WHEREAS Mr. Hughey's personable and open manner has won him
numerous friends in both the public and private sector in Contra Costa
County and throughout the State;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CONTRA COSTA COUNTY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS hereby RECOGNIZES Mr. Paul Hughey for his exemplary
service on behalf of the citizens of Contra Costa County and EXPRESSES
its Best Wishes to him and his wife Lorraine for their continued good
health and happiness during their retirement years.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on October 22, 1985 by unanimous vote of
the Board members present.
I hereby certify that the foregoing is a true and correct
copy of an order entered on the minutes of said Board of Supervisors
on the date aforesaid.
