HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07262011 - C.61RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve and Authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department,
to execute a Purchase Order with KCI, Inc. in the amount of $750,000, for the rental of
patient care equipment at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers, for
the period from September 1, 2011 through August 31, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
In addition to the existing beds, Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers
(CCRMC) rents specialty beds periodically throughout the year. It is less expensive to rent
these beds, which cost between $60,000 and $100,000 each, than it would be to purchase
them outright. Owning the beds would require CCRMC to (1) clean the beds before and
after each use and (2) store the beds off campus, and transport them to and from CCRMC
when they are needed. CCRMC would also need to remove the standard bed and store off
campus until the specialty bed was no longer needed. The vendor, KCI, Inc. is a member of
our novation Group Purchasing organization and as such, extends us the lowest price
