ATTESTED: July 26, 2011 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: June McHuen, Deputy cc: Human Resources, Human Resources, Animal Services C. 36 To:Board of Supervisors From:Ted Cweik Date:July 26, 2011 Contra Costa County Subject:P-300 # 20938 Add one Animal Center Technician and one Registered Veterinary Technician in the Animal Services Department BACKGROUND: On May 17, 2011 the Board of Supervisors adopted Ordinance No. 2011-08 and 2011-09. Ordinance No.2011-08 requires, after two impoundments, the spaying or neutering of an impounded dog before it can be returned to the pet owner; Ordinance No. 2011-09, requires the microchipping of all impounded dogs and cats. Both Ordinances will become effective June 17, 2011. The department currently does not have the staff resources required to implement new the Ordinances. In order to comply with and enforce the new ordinances the Animal Services Department will need an additional Animal Center Technician and Registered Veterinary Technician. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Failure to add and fill these two positions will jeopardize the Department's ability to adequately enforce both Ordinances due to a lack of staffing.
