Mason Antioch, CA 94509 FISCAL IMPACT: None. BACKGROUND: The Economic Opportunity Council was established on January 16, 1965. It is the federally designated Community Action Program tri-partite oversight council in Contra Costa County. It is charged with the mission of working jointly with the Community Services Bureau in developing a Community Action Plan that guides the use of Community Services Block Grant Funds. MASON AS THE DISTRICT V REPRESENTATIVE TO THE ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY COUNCIL BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) It is made up of 15 members - five from the low-income community, five from private sector community organizations and business people, and the five members of the Board of Supervisors who can either serve on the Council or choose to appoint designees on their behalf. The members of the EOC review, study and hear presentations from members of the community to assist them in studying the root causes of poverty in the county. They use this information to develop funding strategies to address these root causes. One of their primary strategies is to seek out partnerships with other community organizations that are also pursuing long-range strategies for low-income people. The District V seat was vacated on May 10, 2011 by Katherine Punsalang. The seat was advertised, several applications were received and Supervisor Glover selected Ms. Mason. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The seat would remain vacant. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
