HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 06282011 - C.105RECOMMENDATION(S): ADOPT Resolution No. 2011/283 awarding a contract in the amount of $106,743 to Continental Electric, the lowest responsible bidder, for repairing vandalism damage to the Richmond Parkway street lighting system. FISCAL IMPACT: The contract cost will be funded through the Public Works Department 2011/12 budget, Service Area L-100 County Street Lighting District (Org 7394). BACKGROUND: Sometime in the past year, vandals removed wire and copper-related products from large sections of the Richmond Parkway street lighting system. The Public Works Department asked the General Services Department to solicit bids for repairing the vandalism. Bradley $181,000 The lowest responsible bid in the amount of $106,743 was submitted by Continental Electric. Under Section 1108-3.208 of the County Ordinance Code, the General Services Director can award informally-bid contracts up to $100,000 without Board involvement. However, in this case, since the lowest bid exceeds $100,000, it is necessary for the Board to approve the contract award. Public Contract Code Section 22034(f) would allow the Board, by resolution adopted by a four-fifths vote, to award a contract for $106,743 to Continental Electric. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: If the contract is not awarded, necessary repairs to the Richmond Parkway street lighting system would not be performed. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
