ATTESTED: June 28, 2011 David Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: KATHERINE SINCLAIR, Deputy cc: C. 26 To:Board of Supervisors From:John Gioia, District I Supervisor Date:June 28, 2011 Contra Costa County Subject:Appoint Gina Swirsding to the District 1 Consumer Seat on the County's Mental Health Commission advise BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) the governing body and local mental health director as to any aspect of the local mental health program; to submit an annual report to the Board of Supervisors; review and make recommendations regarding the appointment of a local director of mental health services; review the County's performance outcome data and communicate its findings to the State Mental Health Commission; and assess the impact of the realignment of services from the State to the County on services delivered to clients and the local community. Supervisor Gioia recruits for open commission seats in a number of ways including through the standard media, and his eblasts, website and newsletters. He interviews all eligible applications. Gina Swirsding is a registered nurse who held various nursing jobs including on a surgical oncology unit at Samuel Merritt College in Oakland, and at Oakland's Piedmont Gardens Nursing Home. She is active in her church, and on the Richmond Heights Neighborhood Council. She is a Block Captain for her neighborhood, for a Richmond Police Department Crime Prevention Program. She is also a mental health consumer. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The District 1 Consumer Seat will remain vacant. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: None. ATTACHMENTS Swirsding Application
