Approve and Authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department,
to execute a Purchase Order with General Electric Healthcare in the amount of $379,940 for
a Proteus Digital Radiographic System with FlashPad and FlashPad upgrade for existing
Proteus Unit at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. This purchase will replace a current
analog unit that has received an “End of Life Announcement” from GE Healthcare. The
upgrade will convert an existing unit to Direct Digital Technology.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
As equipment ages and technology advances many parts and components are no longer
produced thereby rendering these older units “End of Life”. Contra Costa Regional Medical
Center has equipment that falls into this category and based on the announcement letter,
after August 31, 2011, GE Healthcare will no longer renew or offer new service agreements
with an uptime or parts commitment for the Compax 40E radiographic unit. The
replacement system will bring our existing analog unit into the digital realm. Direct Digital

Subject:Diagnostic Digital Radiographic System (CCRMC)
radiology improves workflow, faster image availability, better image quality, increased staff
productivity and lower radiation dose to the patient.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Due to the “End of Life” status this unit will no longer be supported by General Electric
Healthcare. Without the ability to have parts and other components available service
becomes unattainable. Therefore the department will experience extended equipment
downtime and patient care delays.
