APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or his designee, to execute
Amendment #10-0100-SF with the State of California Department of Food and Agriculture
(CDFA) for an additional $75,950.00 for program costs including, but not limited to the
purchase of a new vehicle and kennel construction, as recommended by the the Agricultural
Commissioner-Director of Weights and Measures.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The County will be reimbursed for expenses by the California Department of Food and
Agriculture up to $75,950.00.
BACKGROUND:
The County will perform inspection activities targeting all federal, foreign and domestic
quarantine and federal action pests. The County also agrees to perform inspection activities
targeting all state quarantine pests and state action pests.

Subject:Amendment to Contra Costa County Dog Teams - Pest Exclusion #10-0100-SF
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
The County will use the Dog Team to detect the presence of any unwanted plant pests in
parcels, including insect species, diseases or other harmful organisms, that may pose a threat
to the economic well-being of the State. Each Dog Team will conduct surveillance
inspections at parcel sectional centers such as those operated by Federal Express and United
Parcel Service, etc. to provide parcel inspection services related to plant products entering
the State of California. The teams will also be available to provide inspection service at the
United States Postal Service.
Note: This $75,950.00 agreement is additional to a previously approved $295,976.00
FY10/11 Dog Team agreement (#10-0267) with the California Department of Food and
Agriculture.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
A negative action would result in loss of revenue to the County and needed equipment for
the Department.
