ACCEPT Presentation of the Employment and Human Services Department, Workforce
Development Board Bureau's Summer Youth Employment Program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) is a subsidized employment program for
youth to gain awareness about the work environment, explore career options, gain real
world skills with employment placement during the summer. The 120-hours program gives
youth valuable experiences that can create career goals, relate classroom experiences to
jobs, and define the future for youth. The Workforce Development Board (WDB) has
sponsored more than 1,600 youth during the past two summers and seeks to continue the
program through local fund raising and corporate sponsorship efforts. the goal for the 2011
summer is to place 100 youth throughout th County, earning $8.25 per hour.
The Workforce Development Board has launched a fund raising effort to sustain the

The SYEP presentation will include a short video produced by youth and industry
professionals and encapsulates the importance of offering young people with meaningful
work experience during their teen and young adult years.
