Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to execute, on behalf of
the County, Contract #26-969-10 with Gupta Etwaru, M.D., a self-employed individual, in
an amount not to exceed $416,000, for the provision of professional Ophthalmology
services for patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers, for the period from June 1, 2011 through May 31, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded by Enterprise I Budget. Cost to the County depends upon
utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. (No
rate increases)
BACKGROUND:
On June 8, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-969-9 with Gupta
Etwaru, M.D., for the period from June 1, 2010 through May 31, 2011, for the provision of
ophthalmology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers including, but not limited to, consultation, clinic coverage, training, on-call services
and medical and/or

Approval of Contract #26-969-10 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide
ophthalmology services to patients at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra
Costa Health Centers, through May 31, 2012.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, patients requiring these medical services at Contra Costa
Regional Medical and Contra Costa Health Centers would go untreated.
