Subject:USE OF SOMERSVILLE TOWNE CENTER MALL IN ANTIOCH - FOR PERTUSSIS (WHOOPING
COUGH) AND SEASONAL FLU VACCINATION EVENTS
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the Public Health Division will not be able to meet the
demand to immunize several thousand uninsured or under-insured East County youth,
grades 7 – 12 who, by California law, must be immunized against Pertussis prior to entering
school in Fall 2011. Free seasonal flu vaccinations will also be offered.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
School entry law has changed in California. For the 2011-2012 school year, all students
entering into 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grades will need proof of a whooping cough
vaccination (Tdap) before starting school. Students who have had a Tdap vaccination on or
after the 7thbirthday do not need another. This new law applies to students in both public
and private schools.
