HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04122011 - C.67RECOMMENDATION(S): REFER to the Public Protection Committee the matter of civil gang injunctions, as requested by the District Attorney. FISCAL IMPACT: None. BACKGROUND: In 2009, it was estimated that over one million gang members resided in the United States. The average gang member first joins a gang at the age of 12 ½. The District Attorney is interested in establishing a County practice of obtaining civil gang injunctions against all known violent gang members in Contra Costa County. A civil gang injunction is a court-issued restraining order prohibiting gang members from participating in certain activities. It is based on the legal theory that gang activity constitutes a public nuisance that prevents non-gang members and ordinary residents from enjoying peace in APPROVE OTHER RECOMMENDATION OF CNTY ADMINISTRATOR RECOMMENDATION OF BOARD COMMITTEE Action of Board On: 04/12/2011 APPROVED AS RECOMMENDED OTHER Clerks Notes: VOTE OF SUPERVISORS AYE:John Gioia, District I Supervisor Gayle B.
