HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 04122011 - C.43RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and Authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department, to execute a Purchase Order with Nexus IS in the amount of $2,582,918.18 for the disk storage and fiber channel networking to support the EPIC electronic medical record deployment within the Health Services Department. FISCAL IMPACT: 100% Enterprise Fund I. BACKGROUND: This software will run nearly all aspects of clinical information flow, payment systems, prescription ordering, and many other workflows. With the new EPIC application the department is consolidating 14 line of business applications into one application. Therefore the uptime of this application is critical as nearly 3,000 employees will be working with it. Reliable disk storage subsystem with 99.999% uptime is required to meet the requirements of the application. The selected VMAX storage is the best fit for our EPIC application and to replace storage on our other aging disk storage. The solution is completely redundant with a disk array at our primary and secondary data centers. ATTESTED: April 12, 2011 David J. Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: Carrie Del Bonta, Deputy cc: Tasha Scott, Demetria Gary, Karon Head C.43 To:Board of Supervisors From:William Walker, M.D., Health Services Director Date:April 12, 2011 Contra Costa County Subject:Purchase Order with Nexus IS EMR project could sustain costly downtime, data loss, and loss of employee productivity. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: This disk subsystem if not purchased will cause the Electronic Medical Record project to stall and possibly fail. Additionally, our current medical application called Meditech requires additional disk be purchased as the disk array for it is no longer supported by the vendor. If we were to have a failure of the Meditech disk array, our ability to provide services would be crippled. Without a disk array for either Meditech or the Epic EMR project, our capability to provide services for our customers would suffer and our ability to receive reimbursement from our patient’s insurance providers would be delayed. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: Not applicable.
