Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his Designee, to execute on behalf of the County, Contract
#26-692 with Applied Remedial Services, Inc., a corporation, in an amount not to exceed $235,000, for removal and
disposal of hazardous waste materials at the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers, for the
period from January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This contract is 100% funded in the Enterprise I Fund operational budget.
BACKGROUND:
Applied Remedial Services, Inc. provides removal and disposal of hazardous waste at the hospital and all the clinics
to comply with State and Federal Regulations. This service is required on a quarterly basis. Contra Costa Regional
Medical Center and Health Centers are monitored on a quarterly basis to ensure that hazardous waste is being
disposed of properly. The Contractor has its own lab in which the chemist inspects and prepares profile reports and
documents for disposal facilities,

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
and waste research with disposal facility. They inventory hazardous waste; sort and package chemical waste, and
clean up spilled material. They deliver supplies, package chemical waste from the morgue, pharmacy, public health,
pathology and the hazardous waste shed. They also pick up chemical waste and hazardous waste.
Approval of Contract #26-692 will allow the Contractor to provide removal and disposal of hazardous waste
materials at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, through December 31, 2011.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
This service is mandatory to comply with State and Federal Regulations. If this contract is not approved, Contra
Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers will not receive adequate services and the services rendered under
this Contract will be provided by multiple companies. This Contractor is tried and true, efficient and reliable and has
provided services in good faith to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Health Centers for a number of years
under a purchase order.
