In the Matter of, Honoring the
Mt. Diablo Council, Boy Scouts RESOLUTION NO. 90/
85
of 'America, on the Occasion of
Its 80th Birthday
The Mt. Diablo Council, Boy Scouts of America, was founded on
February 8, 1910. The purpose of founding the Boy Scouts of
America was to teach young men to build character, to train them
to be good citizens, and to develop their personal and mental
fitness. The means of achieving these goals were to be through
fun programs, teamwork, achievement, and learning from the
example set by responsible adult volunteers. In its 80 years of
existence this fine organization has achieved its original goal
and has also been a major part of hundreds of thousands of
people' s lives. The Boy Scouts of America is now an integral
part of our great nation.
The Mt. Diablo Council has been providing scouting programs for
all of Contra Costa County and the cities of Berkeley and Albany
for 80 years. Over 6,100 adults annually register as volunteer
leaders and 13 ,050 youths were either Cubs, Scouts, or Explorers
last year. The ,current President, Rick Cronk, along with
Council Executive, Quentin Alexander, manages a staff of 22 and
deals with a Board of Directors of over 130 members. This
enables the Scouts to be represented on all levels, ensuring
fun, safety, and profitable fund raisers.
NOW, THEREFORE, !BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors
honors the Mt. Diablo Council, Boy Scouts of America, on the
occasion of its 80th birthday.
PASSED AND ADOPTED ON February 6, 1990, by a unanimous vote of
the Board members present.
