HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 02061990 - 90/79IN THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, STA-_E OF CALIFORNIA In the Matter of Commemorating the ) 75th Anniversary of the Panama- RESOLUTION NO. 90/79 Pacific Exposition. WHEREAS .February 10, 1990 will mark the 75th anniversary of the Panama-Pacific Exposition, which celebrated the completion of the Panama Canal and the emergence of San Francisco from the ashes of the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906; and WHEREAS the Panama-Pacific Exposition drew participation from all sections of the United States and was supported financially by 51 California counties, including the County of Contra Costa; and WHEREAS three symbols of the Exposition remain today: the Palace of Fine Arts; its Lagoon; and the bare hull of a small, wooden tug boat, The Gusty; and once restored and re-fitted for seaworthiness, The Gusty would become a useful theme-piece to stimulate interest among school children and others, in the history of both the Exposition and of California's ocean shipping and fishing industries; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY that it hereby COMMEMORATES the 75th Anniversary of the Panama-Pacific Exposition. PASSED by unanimous vote of the Board members present on this 6th day of February, 1990.
