HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTIONS - 11062001 - 2001/549RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING RESOLUTION NO. 2001/549 NOVEMBER 2001 AS SELECTIVE SERVICE AWARENESS MONTH WHEREAS, the Selective Service System of the United States is the federal agency tasked to provide needed manpower to the armed services in the event of war or national emergency; and WHEREAS, United States law requires virtually all men between the ages of 18 through 25 years to register with the Selective Service System to ensure a fair and equitable draft, should such become necessary; and WHEREAS, the fairness of any future draft is dependent.upon-a high level of registration compliance; and WHEREAS, at this time of national emergency it is critical that the.public.be aware of the importance of this requirement for our national.security; and the need for California as the most populous state to take the lead in demonstrating a high level of registration; and. WHEREAS, the month of November 2001 has been designated as National Selective Service Awareness Month throughout-the United States of America. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the.Board of Supervisors of Contra Costa,County does hereby proclaim'November, 2001 as PASSED BY A UNANIMOUS VOTE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS THIS 6TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 2001.
