Subject:ESTABLISHMENT OF THE EMERGENCY MEDICAL AIR TRANSPORTATION ACT FUND
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
certain parking offenses. The bill requires each county board of supervisors to establish in
the county treasury an emergency medical air transportation act fund into which the
penalty collected pursuant to the bill would be deposited. Monies deposited to this fund
would be transferred quarterly to the State Controller for deposit into the State
Emergency Medical Air Transportation Act Fund. Money in the State Emergency
Medical Air Transportation Act Fund would be available, upon appropriation by the
State Legislature, to offset the state portion of the Medi-Cal reimbursement rate for
emergency medical air transportation services and augment emergency medical air
transportation reimbursement payments made through the Medi-Cal program as specified
by the act. The assessment of penalties pursuant to AB 2173 shall terminate commencing
January 1, 2016. Penalties assessed prior to January 1, 2016 will continue to be collected,
administered and disbursed until June 30, 2017.
