Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Patricia Tanquary) to
execute on behalf of the County, Contract #27-291-10 with Bay Area Retina Associates, a
partnership, in an amount not to exceed $110,000, to provide professional ophthalmology
services for the Contra Costa Health Plan for the period from February 1, 2011 through
January 31, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Contra Costa Health Plan (Health Plan) member
premiums. Costs depend upon utilization. (No rate increase)
BACKGROUND:
The Health Plan has an obligation to provide certain specialized professional health care
services for its members under the terms of their Individual and Group Health Plan
membership contracts with the County. In March 2009, the County Administrator approved
and the Purchasing Services Manager executed Contract #27-291-9 with Bay Area Retina
Associates, for the period from February 1, 2009 through January 31, 2011, to provide
ophthalmology services.

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
Approval of Contract #27-291-10 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide
ophthalmology services through January 31, 2013.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, certain specialized professional health care services for its
members under the terms of their Individual and Group Health Plan membership contracts
with the County will not be provided.
