ADOPT Resolution No. 2011/91 approving and authorizing the County Probation Officer,
or designee, to apply for and accept a grant from the Corrections and Standards Authority,
supported by Federal Formula Grant Funds, in an amount not to exceed $200,000 for the
implementation of programming to decrease the number of non-violent youth detained in
secure detention while not compromising public safety, for the period July 1, 2011 through
June 30, 2012.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$200,000; 90% state funds, 10% County match (cash or in-kind) for 12 months.
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this program is to implement systems change to provide alternatives to
detention for youth who do not require secure detention. Using a system wide approach, the
program includes training and implementation of the Detention Risk Assessment Instrument
for staff to be used at intake for youth booked into juvenile

in Probation program will provide parental notification of upcoming court dates and
volunteers will require specific training. Additionally, this opportunity will provide
training in gender specific procedures for staff and volunteers. This project requires data
analysis which will be in conjunction with a local university; data critical to future
departmental programming.
