ADOPT Position Adjustment Resolution No. 20885 to revise the title of the Emergency
Medical Services Director to Emergency medical Services Director - Exempt as
recommended by the Assistant County Administrator Human Resources Director.
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
BACKGROUND:
The Emergency Medical Services Director is a single position classification responsible for
directing, managing, and administering the activities of the Local Emergency Medical
Services Agency (LEMSA) of Contra Cost County, as well as providing leadership and
coordination to the countywide emergency medical services system.
The Emergency Medical Services Division acts as an agent of the State of California. In the
event of a large scale medical incident or a disaster, the Division is responsible for
coordinating emergency medical aid and medical mutual aid for the County. The role and

Subject:Adopt Personnel Action to Revise the Title of a Classification in the Health Services Department
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
of this position will affect all citizens of Contra Costa County should a large scale
medical incident or disaster occur. It will also affect citizens that may be in need of
emergency medical services. The Emergency Medical Services Director is a member of
the Health Services Senior Management Team, therefore this classification is a high-level
position within Contra Costa County Health Services Department and this classification
should be exempt.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this action is not approved, the Health Services Department will not be able to
maximize responsiveness of the highly critical management responsibilities of the
position that ultimately affect all citizens of Contra Costa County.
