Twa, County Administrator and Clerk of the Board of Supervisors By: June McHuen, Deputy cc: C. 38 To:Board of Supervisors From:John Gioia, District I Supervisor Date:March 15, 2011 Contra Costa County Subject:Appoint Don Woodrow to the District 1 Seat on the Contra Costa County Library Commission serve in an advisory capacity to the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian; BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) provide a community linkage to the County Library; to establish a forum for the community to express its views regarding goals and operations of the County Library; assist the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian to provide library services based on assessed public needs; develop and recommend proposals to the Board of Supervisors and the County Librarian for the betterment of the County Library including, but not limited to, such efforts as insuring a stable and adequate funding level for the libraries in the County. Supervisor Gioia seeks applications for community advisory boards in a number of ways including though newspapers and other media outlets, and through his website, newsletters, and eblasts. He interviews all qualified applicants. Don Woodrow, PhD., a Richmond resident, is an active user of the Academy of Public Libraries and a retired geology professor. He has been a reviewer for the National Science Foundation, the Petroleum Research Fund and various science journals. He's volunteered in several capacities for the City of Richmond, including as a board member of the Friends of the Richmond Library and the Richmond Public Library Foundation. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The seat will be unfilled. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: None. ATTACHMENTS Application
