Approve and Authorize the Auditor-Controller, or designee to return $18,180.78 to the
California Department of Public Health (CDPH) for grant claims in excess of the grant
award for the FY â08-09 Nutrition and Physical Activity Promotion Program as
recommended by the Health Services Director.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$18,180.78. 100% State. This amount will be refunded from the Health Services
Department FY â2010-11 operating budget.
BACKGROUND:
The Board of Supervisors approved the Nutritional and Physical Activity Promotion
Program from the California Department of Public Health on October 17, 2008. The grant
award was not to exceed $624,997 and required quarterly claims to be submitted by the
Public Health Division of the Health Services Department. The Health Services Department
claimed $18,180.78 in error during Fiscal Year 2009-10 and must refund the money to
CDPH.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The erroneous claim was discovered during a review by Health Services Accounting staff.
Failure to return the funds by March 3, 2011 will result in pending payments in the amount
of $357,320.41 being withheld.
