APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee,
to execute a contract amendment with Language Line Services, Inc. to increase the payment
limit by $300,000 to a new payment limit of $900,000 for interpretation and translation
services, for the period April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
$900,000: Administrative Overhead (20% County; 40% State; 40% Federal)
BACKGROUND:
Language Line Services, Inc., was selected through the competitive process to provide
telephone interpretation, on-site interpretation, and document translation services to
non-English speaking recipients of Employment and Human Services Department services.
In compliance with State and Federal regulations, interpretation services will be made via
telephone translation and in-person, on-site translation services. Document translation
services will also be provided for any document needing translation into English or

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)

As a result of increase use of Language Line Services due to increased demand of services
provided by Employment and Human Services, this amendment will increase the payment
limit by $300,000.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Employment and Human Services Department will be unable to pay for services to
contract term or pay for services already provided.
