HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 01252011 - C.33RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Probation Officer, or designee, to execute a contract with the State of California Employment Development Department, including modified indemnification language, in an amount not to exceed $4,693 for access to information on certain debtors placed into collections for the period January 1, 2011 through December 31, 2014. FISCAL IMPACT: The maximum amount of this three year contract shall not exceed $4,693 and will be covered by revenue collected by the Probation Collection Unit. BACKGROUND: In September 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved the formation of the Probation Collections Unit (PCU) to collect debt owed to the County for parental responsibility for care of youth in Juvenile Hall and Orin Allen Youth Rehabilitation Facility, Juvenile Electronic Monitoring fees, and Adult Public Defender fees. Kader, County Probation Officer Date:January 25, 2011 Contra Costa County Subject:Agreement with State of California Employment Development Department BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) Department to provide confidential wage and claim information to assist in locating employment history and asset information, and determining a debtor's ability to pay outstanding debts. The State of California Employment Development Department will provide the information to local government entities pursuant to the Provision of Sections 1095 (e) and (i) of the California Unemployment Insurance Code. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Fewer outstanding claims will be collectible without access to the information that will be provided through the contract with the State of California Employment Development Department. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: No impact.
