APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner, or designee, to execute a contract
amendment with Law Search Associates, LLC (dba Legal Research Associates), to extend
the termination date from December 31, 2011 to December 31, 2013 with no change to the
payment limit, for inmate legal research services.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No net County costs. 100% Inmate Welfare Fund.
BACKGROUND:
The proposed contract amendment with Law Search Associates, LLC (dba LRA), extends
the contract end date by three years, from December 31, 2010 to a new contract end date of
December 31, 2013. In the Fall of 2007, the Sheriff's Office and the General Services
Department conducted a public solicitation for law services to inmates. LRA was the
successful, and only, bidder for the contract. The bid allowed for a three-year contract with
an option to extend for up to two years.
On December 18, 2007, the Board approved an initial contract with LRA for the period of

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
2011 (C.160). LRA has agreed to the contract extension as allowed under original bid
process without changes in terms and conditions. This will ensure that the cost of inmate
legal services will remain consistent through 2013.
