HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12142010 - C.109RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract amendment with Brighter Beginnings, a non-profit corporation, to increase the payment limit by $62,874 to a new payment limit not to exceed $465,268 for Cal Learn program services to pregnant and parenting teens, for the period July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. FISCAL IMPACT: 100% Federal California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) single allocation. BACKGROUND: The Cal-Learn Program provides assistance to pregnant and parenting teens enabling them to remain in school and obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent. Brighter Beginnings will provide case management services to Cal-Learn Program participants referred by the Employment and Human Services Department (EHSD). Support will also be given to assist the participants in the transition to independent living upon obtaining their high school diploma or its equivalent. This amendment will allow Brighter Beginning to serve an additional 25 teens per month. (#21-178-24) CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Teen participants unable to receive assitance under this contract may not stay in high school and receive their diploma or equivalent. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This contract supports all five of the community outcomes established in the Children’s Report Card: 1) “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School”; 2) “Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood”; 3) “Families that are Economically Self Sufficient”; 4) “Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing”; and 5) “Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families,” by providing assistance to teen parents.
