HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 12142010 - C.69RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to execute a contract with Bay Area Legal Aid, a non-profit corporation, in an amount not to exceed $100,000 to provide community defined solutions to violence against women project services for the period September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2012. FISCAL IMPACT: $100,000: 100% Federal Department of Justice Grant (CFDA # 16.590) BACKGROUND: The Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Initiative (ZTDVI) applied for and received funds from the Department of Justice, Office on Violence against Women, Community-Defined Solutions to Violence Against Women Project (“Project”). This contract will assist with activities consistent with the funding application. The goals and objectives of the Project are: 1) Strengthened support and advocacy for domestic violence (DV) victims. 2) Enhanced law enforcement response to DV. 3) Standardized risk assessment protocol. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Employment and Human Services Department will be unable to provide these valuable services. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: This contract supports five of the community outcomes established in the Children’s Report Card: 1) “Children Ready for and Succeeding in School”; 2) “Children and Youth Healthy and Preparing for Productive Adulthood”; 3) “Families that are Economically Self Sufficient”; 4) “Families that are Safe, Stable and Nurturing”; and 5) “Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families,” by assisting parents in maintaining a safe and secure environment.
