APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Administrator, or designee, to apply for and
accept, on behalf of the Library Department, a grant in the amount of $25,000 from the
California State Library, Library Services and Technology Act, Public Library Staff
Education Program Grants to provide tuition reimbursement for existing staff members who
are pursuing their Master of Library Information Science degree for the period July 1, 2010
through June 30, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No Library fund match.
BACKGROUND:
FY 2010-2011 is the eighth year the California State Library has provided funds for Public
Library Staff Education Program. The program, which was developed by a team of public
library directors and staff, assists the library's efforts to encourage existing staff members to
pursue their Master in Library Science degree.
