APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Sheriff-Coroner or designee, to expend $1,985 for costs
associated with employee Thomas Chalk's attendance at the Federal Bureau of Investigation
National Academy from January 9 though March 18, 2011. This expense is to be
differentiated from an advance on funds or reimbursement.
Summary of Expenses:
Academy Uniforms - $450.00
Student Assessment - $115.00
Miscellaneous Expenses ($20/day x 71 days) - $1,420.00
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% County General Fund, Budgeted. The total cost to the County for this continuing
education program will be borne by the Sheriff's Office operational budget.

Subject:Approve costs associated with attendance at the FBI Academy 01/09/11 through 03/18/11
BACKGROUND:
The Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy is a prestigious continuing
education program recognized internationally for law enforcement personnel. The training
program is a comprehensive and balanced 10-week program of advanced professional
instruction. Throughout this training, particular emphasis is placed on leadership
development. Personnel from the Office of the Sheriff-Coroner attend the National
Academy at the personal invitation of the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
All major costs, including transportation, are funded by the Bureau.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
Negative action could suppress the ability of our county to continue preparing our local law
enforcement officials for the unique leadership challenges which we are certain to face in
the future.
