THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA
Adopted this Order on January 15, 1985 , by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Powers, Schroder, me Peak, Torlakson, Fanden
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None
SUBJECT: Street and Drug Crimes in West Contra Costa County
Richard K. Rainey, County Sheriff-Coroner, in a January 2,
1985, memorandum to the Board transmitted a report documenting, said
Department ' s response to street drug sales and related violence in
the North Richmond area. Sheriff Rainey advised that since the
special enforcement effort concluded November 18, 1984, continuous
monitoring reveals that the area of concern and adjacent areas are
free of the blatant street crimes and criminals .
However, the Sheriff expressed concern that the success of
the special enforcement is temporary since much of the criminal
activity moved three blocks away into the City of Richmond. He also
commented on the high cost of the special enforcement program to
repeat at a department level with any regularity. Sheriff Rainey
requested assistance to remove this criminal activity from; the area.
On recommendation of Supervisor Torn Powers, IT IS BY THE
BOARD ORDERED that the District Attorney is REQUESTED to convene a
meeting of representatives from appropriate agencies to address the
longterm, concerns about street and drug crimes in West County.
I hereby certify that this is a tru-3:mol ccr;ect copy of
an action taken and entered on Vic minutes of the
Board of Supervisors on the dwte s:iown.
