HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11232010 - C.54RECOMMENDATION(S):
Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Health Services Department,
to amend a purchase order with Sullivan Schein Dental, to add $320,000 for a new total of
$520,000 and to extend the term through April 30, 2012 for the purchase of dental supplies,
equipment and repairs at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total cost of $320,000 is budgeted in Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
The Contra Costa Regional Medical Center (CCRMC) dental clinics have purchased dental
supplies and equipment from Sullivan Schein for many years. CCRMC receives an
institutional discount price and prompt personal service. The special nature of dental
equipment and supplies requires a vendor who specializes in dentistry. Because of our
long-standing business relationship with Sullivan Schein, CCRMC receives additional
benefits including free loaner equipment during repairs and special discounts. This budget
covers Richmond, Martinez, Pittsburg and Bay Point dental clinics.

CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If this contract is not approved, we will soon run out of supplies and no longer be able to
provide dental services at CCRMC clinics.
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Children are increasingly becoming a larger percentage of the patient population served by
CCRMC dental clinics. Dental equipment and supplies are necessary to provide dental care.
