HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11232010 - C.43RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to apply for and accept a grant in the amount of $500 on behalf of the County’s Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Initiative (ZTDV) from Kaiser Permanente East Bay Area in support of the 5th Annual Men of Merit event. FISCAL IMPACT: 100% Grant Funding. No County match required. BACKGROUND: Contra Costa County’s Zero Tolerance for Domestic Violence Initiative is a lead partner in the Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership Through Alliances (DELTA) Project, which annually hosts a “Men of Merit” awards event. The DELTA Project (Centers for Disease Control’s Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancements and Leadership Through Alliances program) was developed in Contra Costa County to prevent the incidence of first-time intimate partner domestic violence. The “Men of Merit” Celebration is a component of the DELTA Project’s program “Everyday Heroes Prevent Relationship Violence”. The program’s message is that violence does not equal strength. Men of Merit celebrate dynamic men who take a stand to promote a positive image in young men’s lives. Men of Merit are outstanding men of character and compassion with a strong commitment to being a positive influence in the lives of boys and young men in Contra Costa County. Men of Merit are from a variety of backgrounds and professions who have one thing in common: a commitment to their community and mentoring young boys to become compassionate men. The Men of Merit Celebration is a time for the community to show its appreciation to the dedicated men who choose to be a positive role model to boys and young men, who demonstrate that violence does not equal strength, and who work to mentor boys into the next generation of compassionate men. This year’s Men of Merit celebration will take place on December 2, 2010 at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA. Kaiser funding will support entertainment by the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts’ Richmond Jazz Collective and Voices of Reason. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: Valuable community services will not be funded. CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: None
