BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
of Merit public awareness event.
The “Men of Merit” Celebration is a component of the DELTA Project’s program
“Everyday Heroes Prevent Relationship Violence”. The program’s message is that violence
does not equal strength. Men of Merit celebrate dynamic men who take a stand to promote a
positive image in young men’s lives. Men of Merit are outstanding men of character and
compassion with a strong commitment to being a positive influence in the lives of boys and
young men in Contra Costa County. Men of Merit are from a variety of backgrounds and
professions who have one thing in common: a commitment to their community and
mentoring young boys to become compassionate men.
The Men of Merit Celebration is a time for the community to show its appreciation to the
dedicated men who choose to be a positive role model to boys and young men, who
demonstrate that violence does not equal strength, and who work to mentor boys into the
next generation of compassionate men. This year’s Men of Merit celebration will take place
on December 2, 2010 at Contra Costa College in San Pablo, CA. Kaiser funding will
support entertainment by the East Bay Center for the Performing Arts’ Richmond Jazz
Collective and Voices of Reason.
