HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11232010 - C.36RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Agricultural Commissioner, or designee, to execute a contract with the California Department of Food and Agriculture, to pay the County an amount not to exceed $1,222 to provide all labor and equipment necessary to perform nursery inspection and enforcement activities within the county for the period July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. FISCAL IMPACT: This action provides reimbursement from the California Department of Food and Agriculture for departmental expenses incurred during the agreement period for visual surveys of nurseries and to enforce all laws and regulations pertaining to nursery stock, including licensing requirements in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding between the California Department of Food and Agriculture and the California Agricultural Commissioners and Sealers Association entitled "State-County Nursery Inspection Program". BACKGROUND: Nursery inspection work is a long term activity of the department. Guise, Director of Agriculture/Weights & Measures Date:November 23, 2010 Contra Costa County Subject:Agreement #10-0374 Pest Exclusion/Nursery Inspections that certain regulatory requirements on the plant nursery industry are met that protect consumers and stop or slow the spread of exotic invasive species that may be present on certain host material. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: A negative action will result in the Department's failure to meet the terms of Standard Agreement #10-0374 resulting in the loss of the resulting program and revenue.
