HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 11092010 - C.38RECOMMENDATION(S): Approve and Authorize the Purchasing Agent, on behalf of the Public Works Department, to execute a Purchase Order, in an amount not to exceed $244,543 for the lease of two hundred and twenty (220) personal computer systems over a 4-year period, as recommended by the Public Works Director. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no impact to the General Fund. The lease will be paid with revenues from programs that will benefit from the personal computers (40% Flood Control, 40% Road Fund, 20% Special Resource Funds). BACKGROUND: The personal computers at the Public Works Department are six (6) years old or older and beginning to fail at a rate of one to two personal computers per week. Information Technology staff has been able to repair the computers with spare parts from other failed computers. However, the amount of computer downtime and expenditures on repairing computers has had a negative impact on department productivity and efficiency. BACKGROUND: (CONT'D) our computer inventory, we are recommending entering into a lease with Dell that will allow us to replace all of our computers this year and then get into a three (3) year cycle for personal computer replacements for the Department to avoid the inefficiencies we are currently experiencing in the Department. The lease for the personal computers for the Public Works Department would be added to a master lease agreement previously executed between Dell and Contra Costa County. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: The Department would not be able to replace its aging inventory of personal computers and the productivity and inefficiencies will continue to escalate as additional computers fail.
