APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment & Human Services Director, or designee, to
apply for and accept funding from First Five Contra Costa Children and Families
Commission for a health promotion public education grant in an amount not to exceed
$15,000 during the term January 1, 2011 through June 30, 2011.
FISCAL IMPACT:
100% grant funding
No County match. No pension costs.
BACKGROUND:
The Department is applying to First Five Contra Costa for a $15,000 mini-grant as part of
First Five Contra Costa's Community Information and Engagement Initiative to implement a
violence prevention program entitled A Head Start for Peace. If funded, the program will
address environmental hazards affecting children and the impact of violence on children's
healthy development. The program is designed to foster racial healing, tolerance and equity
building.

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports
three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and
Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and,
Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved
by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
