Accept a report by Contra Costa Health Services’ Public Health Division on flu vaccination
efforts and encourage residents and county employees to get vaccinated to help prevent the
spread of flu.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
BACKGROUND:
Contra Costa Health Services (CCHS) has launched a comprehensive campaign to
encourage flu vaccinations. This year, only one vaccine is needed for protection against
H1N1 and two other flu viruses that are expected to be circulating this year. Everyone six
months and older is urged to get vaccinated. There is ample vaccine available from health
care providers, pharmacies and clinics throughout the county, including county Health
Centers. In addition, Contra Costa Public Health will hold a free, one-day, nine-city, flu
vaccination clinic event on November 10 from 1 to 7 p.m. – all are welcome. The
whooping cough vaccine also will be provided at these clinics. Information about flu and

CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
Young children are particularly vulnerable to complications from the flu and vaccination is
one of the best ways to protect them. Children can also spread the flu to other members of
their family, including older relatives.
