Approve and authorize the Health Services Director, or his designee (Wendel Brunner,
M.D.) to execute on behalf of the County, Unpaid Student Training Agreement #26-471-4
with Board of Trustees of California State University on behalf of California State
University, East Bay, an educational institution, to provide field instruction in the Health
Services Department for Contractor’s students, for the period from August 1, 2010 through
July 31, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
The purpose of this agreement is to provide Contractor’s students with the opportunity to
integrate academic knowledge with application skills and attitudes at progressively higher
levels of performance requirements and responsibility. Supervised fieldwork experience for
students is considered to be an integral part of both the educational and professional
preparation. The Health Services Department can provide the requisite field education,

On July 24, 2007, the Board of Supervisors approved Unpaid Student Training Agreement
#22-471-3 with California State University, East Bay, (formerly known as California State
University, Hayward), for the period from August 1, 2007 through July 31, 2010.
Approval of Unpaid Student Training Agreement #22-471-4 will continue to provide
supervised clinical experience for Contractor’s students, through July 31, 2013.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the recommendation is not approved, students will loose the opportunity to receive field
training and the department will loose the ability to take advantage of the student's services
to patients.
