Approve and authorize the Health Services Director or his designee, to execute, on behalf of
the County, Contract #26-666-1 with David Erwin Kline, M.D., a self-employed individual,
in an amount not to exceed $1,200,000 to provide professional anesthesiology services at
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period
from October 1, 2010 through September 30, 2013.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This Contract is funded 100% by Enterprise Fund I. Cost to the County depends upon
utilization. As appropriate, patients and/or third party payors will be billed for services. No
increase in rates.
BACKGROUND:
For a number of years the County has contracted with Medical, Dental and Mental Health
Specialists to provide specialized professional services that are not otherwise available in its
Hospital and Health Centers.
On April 20, 2010, the Board of Supervisors approved Contract #26-666 with David Erwin

BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
M.D., to provide professional anesthesiology services including consultation, training,
medical procedures and on-call and coverage for the General and Obstetrics Units at Contra
Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health Centers, for the period May 10,
2010 through September 30, 2010.
Approval of Contract #26-666-1 will allow the Contractor to continue to provide
anesthesiology services at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center and Contra Costa Health
Centers, through September 30, 2013.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
If the recommendation is not approved surgeries may be delayed.
