Subject:P300 #20816 Reallocate Salary of Animal Services Utility Worker
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
order to compensate employees for the new additional duty to be performed. The Animal
Services Department has historically utilized the Animal Services Utility Worker to perform
janitorial and maintenance of the animal shelters, and to transport live animals and
equipment between centers. The current job specification has been revised to include the
added responsibility of assisting other Animal Services personnel with the collection and
disposal of animal carcasses found throughout the County. The volume of calls received
from residents seeking services supports the Department's review and amendment of its
current job classifications in order to provide customer service to County residents.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
The Animal Services Department will continue to have limited staff to allocate to the
removal of small & large animal carcasses during peak periods. Consequently, dead animals
may remain on roadways and sidewalks longer creating potential health hazards while
Animal Services Officers are busy with more important public protection calls.
