HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09212010 - SD.3RECOMMENDATION(S):
Adopt Resolution No. 2010/460 regarding the 2010 Contra Costa County Combined
Charities Campaign.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No fiscal impact.
BACKGROUND:
Contra Costa County employees have a long and generous history of supporting the
Combined Charities Campaign. The current deep national recession has left many of our
own family members, neighbors, and friends needing help to survive, let alone thrive.
Others even less fortunate are in dire straits. We all must join to help the most vulnerable
among us.
Last year approximately 13% of the County's employees participated in this campaign. This
year we are hoping to reach at least 15%. We are all fortunate to have jobs, and know others
who are less fortunate and have lost their jobs. If the situation were reversed, how would
you want the employees of Contra Costa County to respond to the Campaign's request for a

donation? We're guessing it would be "HAPPY TO HELP!" So, that's the
BACKGROUND: (CONT'D)
slogan for this year's campaign.
The best way to leverage our help is to financially support the organizations positioned to
provide direct assistance to our needy neighbors and friends. We are grateful to those
who can give generously, but we also reach out to those who themselves are feeling the
financial pinch and may feel that they are not able to give, or that the little they can spare
will not make a difference. On the contrary - EVERY PENNY COUNTS! Small
donations from many people add up to making a big difference!
We encourage every employee to support this campaign, feel good about contributing
what they can, and be "HAPPY TO HELP!"
