HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 09142010 - C.127RECOMMENDATION(S):
APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the County Clerk-Recorder, or designee, to donate a surplus
ballot card reader from the DFM Mark-a-Vote ballot counting system and remove this item
from the departmental inventory.
FISCAL IMPACT:
No net County cost.
BACKGROUND:
The Elections Division of the County-Clerk-Recorder's Office still has components of the
former DFM Mark-a-Vote ballot counting system, which was replaced by the Board of
Supervisors in 2005. These components are no longer useful or necessary to Election
operations. The vendor has indicated that the equipment cannot be reconditioned and has
outlived its useful life. The equipment is currently in storage awaiting surplus and disposal.
The California State Archives collects examples of voting systems that have been used in
California and has indicated they would be interested in acquiring one of the DFM
Mark-a-Vote card readers.
