HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 08102010 - C.79RECOMMENDATION(S):
REFER to the Public Protection Committee the issue of whether to enact an ordinance to
require spay/neutering of Pit Bull-type dog breeds, as recommended by Supervisor Gioia.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None
BACKGROUND:
Pit Bulls attacking, and in some cases, killing adults and children continues to be a public
safety issue in Contra Costa County. Most recently, a two year old Concord resident was
tragically killed when he was attacked by three of his step-grandfather's pit bulls.
For the protection of Contra Costa County residents, Supervisor Gioia would like the Public
Protection Committee to consider a mandatory spay/neuter ordinance for pit bulls.
