Approve and authorize the Purchasing Agent on behalf of the Health Services Department,
to execute, a Purchase Order with Sysco in an amount not to exceed $950,000.00, for
purchase of fresh, frozen, canned and packaged foods; paper and plastic service ware, cups
and lids and chemicals for cleaning at Contra Costa Regional Medical Center.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This expenditure is budgeted in Enterprise Fund I.
BACKGROUND:
The above items are needed to prepare meals for the patients and cafeteria customers of
Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. Purchases from Sysco account for 70% - 80% of
food; 95% of paper and plastic service and preparation items; 98% of cleaning chemicals
and 80% - 90% of small wares including china, cutlery and items such as pots and pans used
in the preparation, service and clean up of meals. Sysco Corp. is a part of the purchasing
agreement that the county has with Med Assets (a GPO)* to provide negotiated pricing. By

chemical manufacturers. These negotiated pricing agreements are then transmitted to Sysco
and, in turn, passed on to Contra Costa Regional Medical Center. Approval of this Purchase
Order will allow Sysco to provide these services through September 30, 2011.
