HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES - 07272010 - C.22RECOMMENDATION(S): APPROVE and AUTHORIZE the Employment and Human Services Director, or designee, to accept funding from the First Five Contra Costa Children and Families Commission, Family Support Grant in an amount not to exceed $580,312 to coordinate and administer Welcome Home Baby, a family support program, for the period July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. FISCAL IMPACT: County to receive $580,312; 100% First Five Contra Costa Family and Children Commission, Family Support Grant. No County cost. BACKGROUND: The Welcome Home Baby Program (WHB) is a prevention and early intervention program providing home visiting for first time families. Pregnant and new mothers benefit from a home visitor to ensure that they enter prenatal care early, keep routine prenatal appointments, and recieve information about healthy child development, nutrition, safety, breastfeeding, and other supports necessary for a healthy delivery, postpartum up to three years after birth. Employment and Human Services provides administration and coordiantion for the WHB home visitation program with prevention and early intervention focus providing families with home visittaton services emphasizing bonding and nurturing child development. CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION: CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT: The funding will support two of the community outcomes established in the Children's Report Card, 4) "Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing" and 5) "Communities that are Safe and Provide a High Quality of Life for Children and Families", by providing services to first-time families for children to be healthy, ready to learn, and supported in safe, nurturing families and communities.
