Contra
Costa
County
Subject:2010-11 Childcare services contract with Cambridge Community Center
BACKGROUND:
Contra Costa County receives funds from the Administration for Children and Families
(ACF) to provide Head Start and Early Head Start services to program eligible County
residents. Contra Costa also receives funds from California Department of Education (CDE)
to provide State Preschool services to program eligible County residents.
The Board approved receipt of funds from ACF on September 15, 2009.
In order to provide a wider distribution of services to County residents, the Department
contracts with a number of community-based organizations. Approval of this contract will
allow the provision of Head Start services and State Preschool services to program eligible
children and families in the Central Costa County area.
CONSEQUENCE OF NEGATIVE ACTION:
CHILDREN'S IMPACT STATEMENT:
The Employment & Human Services Department Community Services Bureau supports
three of Contra Costa County’s community outcomes - Outcome 1: “Children Ready for and
Succeeding in School,” Outcome 3: “Families that are Economically Self-sufficient,” and,
Outcome 4: “Families that are Safe, Stable, and Nurturing.” These outcomes are achieved
by offering comprehensive services, including high quality early childhood education,
nutrition, and health services to low-income children throughout Contra Costa County.
